First live HD broadcast from space today

leave a comment »

Today sees a world first, or rather a looking-at-the-world first.

Astronauts on the International Space Station will, courtesy of NASA, broadcast live in HD for the benefit of viewers of the Discovery Channel in the US and NHK in Japan.

I wish there was a little more information about the equipment being used at the transmit and receive stations, as well as the bandwidth and coding type being used.

As if NASA actually has to worry about bandwidth! 😉
